Marshmallow Moments

Opening day in our new Acton home warmed our hearts and also our bellies as we drank hot cocoa and topped our celebration with beloved marshmallows! It’s funny how such a small, squishy,  and innocent delight had bountiful inspiration for our learners. When realizing that our feet made quite the rumble on the studio floor we began to imagine “what if our feet were marshmallows?” “could we be marshmallow ninjas?” And so began the development of marshmallow moments.

All week learners have been practicing their marshmallow feet as they tour and get settled in to our new home for learning. Throughout the week, our opening day marshmallows have inspired us to have marshmallow hands when we work with materials, marshmallow feet as we move through the studio and school, and even marshmallow mouths as we listen to other learners share thoughts during circle time, plus we came up with a marshmallow yoga pose! (it’s pretty cute––please ask your learner for a demonstration)

Tracking marshmallows was this weeks lesson in accountability and team work. Learners voted on the first marshmallow jar goal––outside all day! (PJ party and dance party were close runner ups)  Sometimes it’s sad when a learner breaks a rule and must remove a marshmallow from the jar. Other times it’s a joyous marshmallow celebration when a learner or the entire group of learners earn marshmallows for focused work, team work, or extra kindness to friends. We ring the bell and call out these amazing marshmallow moments!
