Our admissions process is designed to make sure Acton is the right fit for your family.

We recognize that we ask you to dedicate time and thought to the process. Families who are thriving in our community often share that they truly enjoyed the process, and we hope you do too!

STEP 1—LEARN MORE

Please familiarize yourself with the Acton method if you haven’t already. We recommend you review our website, watch videos created by the Acton Academy founding school, and read Courage to Grow: How Acton Academy Turns Learning Upside Down written by co-founder Laura Sandefer. This Acton origin story is required reading for all families prior to acceptance.

STEP 2—COMPLETE THE APPLICATION

If you’d like to explore Acton as an option for your learner, please submit an application online and begin your adventure! Our Director and team will review your application and will reach out via email if a Family Meeting/Tour is appropriate and share scheduling options. If you do not receive a response after 2 weeks of your submission please email info@actonacademyoshkosh.org to check on your application status.

STEP 3—FAMILY MEETING/TOUR + Day Trial

If Acton seems to be the right fit, we will invite your learner and family for a one-on-one meeting and tour of our school, typically held in the morning as it is the least disruptive to our learning environment. We’re interested in getting a first glance of your learner’s passions, interests, and love for learning while discussing how we can work together to support their hero’s journey at Acton. During the tour you and your learner will be asked a series of questions and will have the opportunity to get curious. If your learner enjoys their visit we invite all learners serious about attending to come back to Acton for a full school day and give it a test run in the studio.

STEP 4—DEEP DIVE FINAL STEPS

Following your family visit to Acton we will ask you to complete a series of questions about your goals as a future Acton family and your thoughts on our philosophy and reactions to learning the story of Acton in the book Courage to Grow. Depending on the age of your child, we may ask your learner to write or share a video of their desire to be at Acton (typically upper elementary and middle school aged learners).

STEP 5 —INVITATION TO ENROLL

If we believe Acton would be a good fit for your family, we will invite you to enroll. The enrollment deposit will be due upon acceptance of our offer of admission and will hold your learner’s spot in the studio. Any family requesting Tuition Assistance applies through the same enrollment process and must complete a Tuition Assistance application.

NOTE: Families wishing to pre-enroll their young learner (0-3) must complete a pre-enrollment application online and explore the same process above. If families are accepted to join our pre-enrollment list they must submit a nonrefundable enrollment fee in order to hold their confirmed spot.
