ADVENTURE STUDIO (Ages 11-14)

The Adventure Studio is our middle school studio for learners who have already proven that they are able to work independently. Learners graduate into the Adventure Studio when they are committed to taking increased responsibility for their self-directed learning and studio governance. This studio includes more challenging real-world problems and projects, Socratic discussions, and the exciting start to apprenticeships!

Learners work independently and collaboratively in Core Skills, Quests, Socratic Discussions, and deepen their responsibility for learning and governance.
Apprenticeships are added opportunities for learners to venture into the world of their passion! Learners first explore their skills and talents and research a variety of jobs and industries that align with their interest. Learners are guided to contact employers and “pitch” the value they will bring to a business, organization, or person in a short apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are extremely unique and result in the efforts of each learner to negotiate a successful project. These are the first opportunities for learners to live in the world of their passion, experiment, and gain valuable skills for their future.
Finding and pursuing these apprenticeship opportunities are invaluable skills for a learner’s future in the world. We envision apprenticeships to occur in collaboration with culinary chefs, printing companies, architectural firms, construction companies, professional sports teams, and more!
Why Adventure?
An ADVENTURE begins with one step towards the unknown. This studio equips learners to dive into the adventure of the hero’s journey so they may find and cultivate their calling to change the world. This studio is named for the process of growing up, full of wondrous adventures!
